Pothy Weeding Sarees Biography

The T. Nagar-based textile store, has entered the Guinness Book of World Records by making a longest silk sari, measuring 1,276 feet.
A communication from the Guinness World Records to Pothys said: "Your record has been accepted as an official Guinness World Record."
S. Ramesh, managing partner, Pothys, said the work to create the sari began about a year ago.
Six master weavers, six weavers and nine painters of Pothys created the single piece sari, measuring 1,276 feet in length and four feet in width.
The paintings in the sari depict the history of India over the last five millennia, starting with the Mohanjadaro-Harappan civilisation, and covering the Rama era, Krishna era, Buddha, Mahaveera, Maurya, Chera, Chola, Pandiyas, Rajaputs, Moghuls, culminating in the country's freedom struggle, Mr. Ramesh said.
Using gold zari, exquisite monuments such as the parliament building, the Taj Mahal, the Charminar, the Qutab Minar, the Brahadeeswarar temple in Thanjavur, the Golden temple in Amritsar and the church in Egmore have been depicted.
Similarly, paintings on the social and cultural life of the people of that period and portraits of Bharat Mata, Mahatma Gandhi, Tiruvalluvar, Swami Vivekananda and the Globe have been used in the sari, Mr. Ramesh said. A total of 40 kg of zari and fabric were used for making the sari, which was produced at a cost of Rs. 22 lakhs.
